ENTRANT ELIGIBILITY:
Must be an active or retired architect registered in the state of New
Mexico.
PROJECT ELIGIBILITY:
A singular work of residential or commercial architecture built in Santa
Fe County completed since January 1, 1998. Projects having received
awards not associated with the Jeff Harnar Award may be entered. There
is no limit to the number of entries per firm or architect. All joint
venture firms must clearly identify –
in the Project Identification Form – contributing architects and all
other participants contributing to the design of the project. Architects
will be encouraged to re-enter projects if they did not previously win
the Jeff Harnar award. Projects that have received an award in a
previous year will not be eligible for any subsequent awards.
PLEASE NOTE: This
year’s award and that of the 2009 JHA competition will be for a single
building. However, starting in 2010 and every fifth year thereafter, the
award shall be given for a body of work that demonstrates growth in the
regional style. A body of work shall be defined as a minimum of 3
buildings completed within 5 years. During the intervening years the
award will continue to be given for a single building.
AWARD CRITERIA:
Entries will be evaluated on architectural diversity by way of fresh and
colorful interpretations of the region’s history and culture. Projects must
demonstrate the innovative utilization of available materials and
technology. Architectural solutions must demonstrate artistic responses to
the challenges of the site, client, program, and budget. The work must be of
architectural permanence. The work should draw inspiration from the high
desert and its vegetation, geological forms, and the brilliant range of
color and texture, and incorporate a creative infusion of desert light into
the built work.
The winner will receive a $5,000 award and
certificate at a special presentation to be held on September 18, 2008 to
coincide with Santa Fe Design Week. In recognition of the vital part they
play in the creation of these projects, the Owner and Contractor of the
winning project are invited to participate in the award presentation. At the
architect’s request, additional certificates will be prepared for the Owner
and the General Contractor. If feasible, there will be an opportunity for
the public to tour the winning project
JUDGING

three members from the cultural community of Santa Fe who are involved with
the creative arts and sciences.
